Privacy Policy

Gecko Climbing ("we", "our", or "the app") is a climbing tracker for iOS. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we protect it.

1. Data we collect

Account information

• Name, email address, and user ID provided during sign-up (via email, Google Sign-In, or Sign in with Apple).
• Profile photo, if you choose to upload one.

Climbing data

• Sessions, climbs, grades, outcomes, gym names, and session duration that you log in the app.

Photos

• Photos you attach to climbs or sessions are uploaded to secure cloud storage and linked to your account.

Usage analytics

• We use PostHog to collect anonymous product interaction data (screens viewed, features used) to improve the app. This data is not used for advertising or sold to third parties.

Push notification tokens

• If you enable notifications, we store your device token to deliver friend activity alerts and weekly recaps.

2. How we use your data

• To provide core app features: logging climbs, tracking progress, and showing stats.
• To power the social feed so you can share sessions with friends.
• To send push notifications you've opted into (friend activity, weekly recaps).
• To improve the app through aggregate, anonymous analytics.

3. Data storage and security

Your data is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore, Firebase Auth, Firebase Cloud Storage) and processed on Google Cloud infrastructure. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. We do not use custom encryption beyond standard transport-layer security.

4. Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for advertising purposes. Data is shared only with:

• Firebase / Google Cloud — infrastructure provider for authentication, database, and file storage.
• PostHog — anonymous product analytics (no personal identifiers are sent).
• Other users — your profile name, climbing sessions, and posts are visible to users who follow you in the social feed.

5. Your rights

• Access & export. You can view all your data within the app.
• Deletion. You can request account deletion by contacting us. We delete your account and associated data within 30 days.
• Opt out of analytics. Contact us to opt out of PostHog analytics collection.

6. Children's privacy

Gecko Climbing is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us and we will delete it.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by email.
